The Thematic Fund on Shaping the future of European Migration Governance was created in 2021 through the merging of EPIM´ s previous Thematic Funds on Asylum and Detention. It aims to support civil society organisations in co-shaping viable and effective alternatives to a migration governance defined by deterrence, ensuring alignment with existing EU law and international human rights standards.
The Thematic Fund will specifically support civil society actions and constructive dialogue between civil society and policymakers aimed to safeguard access to asylum procedures, prevent human rights violations at the EU borders, reduce immigration detention and expand options for reducing irregularity through non-coercive means.
