The ongoing negotiations of the 2021-2027 EU Multiannual Financial Framework provide a unique opportunity to learn from past EU funding experiences and enhance the contribution of future EU funding for migrant inclusion and social cohesion efforts.
In this context, EPIM has commissioned two publications:
- Mainstreamed or overlooked? Migrant inclusion and social cohesion in the European Social Fund, a study by A. Ahad and T. Schmidt which analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the existing European Social Fund (ESF), its role in supporting migrant inclusion and social cohesion and how its impact could be enhanced in the future. The publication includes case studies on France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden.
- Money Wise – Improving how EU funds support migration and integration policy objectives, a Policy Brief by Migration Policy Institute (MPI) Europe which analyses how the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the ESF work to support migration and inclusion efforts around Europe.
Both publications draw on interviews with EU policymakers, national and subnational managing authorities as well as Funds’ beneficiaries.
