As part of a cross funded approach within EPIM’s work on narrative change and our Ukraine Response, Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities Association (AIPG)‘s project ‘Life Stories, Not Numbers – Strengthening Democratic Resilience through Inclusive Narratives’ aims to address hostile, racist, and xenophobic narratives put upon migrants in border communities in Romania.
The project will thus contribute to building inclusive and resilient communities that perceive migration as an opportunity for strengthening their social fabric, and not as a threat and aims to:
- Identify mainstream narratives on migration in today’s Romanian society.
- Contribute to challenging and transforming narratives about migration by shifting the focus from security, legality, and cost issues to migration’s benefits for local communities, such as diversity, multiculturalism, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
- Foster welcoming and inclusive societies and a climate of understanding and acceptance for migrants of all backgrounds.
- Stimulate opportunities for migrants to engage in the community by giving them a voice through the collection and publication of nuanced stories.
- Build a coalition for promoting welcoming and inclusive border communities in Romania – a model to be replicated at the regional level.
