In 2018-2019, the Migration Policy Group (MPG) established a new communications and coordination team for Pan-European collaboration and coordinated the Europe-wide CSO campaign #WelcomingEurope: the first European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) on migration. The initiative ranked as one of the most successful ECI attempts and as the largest coordinated sets of petitions on migration in Europe. So far, the #WelcomingEurope campaign has brought together a broad and intersectional audience of over 200 CSOs from across Europe.
Understanding the importance of civil society cooperation for effectively communicating on migration, MPG now aims to further strengthen coordinated efforts for messaging on EU migration policy priorities while building up a sustainable long-term alliance between CSOs working on migration. The priority of the new “Alliance for a Welcoming Europe” is to strengthen connections between CSOs by identifying and sharing communications capacities to develop impactful joint campaigns, both on the national and European level. Through this initiative, MPG pursues to cooperate with CSOs in target EU Member State and to continue working closely with the EPAM network, a CSOs coordination structure at EU level.
